Today is a beautiful Friday. Normally, it would be a working day, but I took time off. Nothing feels more important right now than applying for permanent residency. I still had one missing document related to social insurance, so I went there to confirm before submitting everything. As expected, I wasn’t required to provide that document after all.
Hôm nay là một ngày thứ Sáu đẹp trời. Lẽ ra tôi vẫn đi làm như bình thường, nhưng tôi xin nghỉ. Không có việc gì quan trọng hơn lúc này ngoài việc xin vĩnh trú. Tôi còn thiếu một giấy tờ liên quan đến bảo hiểm xã hội nên đã đến hỏi lại trước khi nộp chính thức. Và đúng như dự đoán, tôi không thuộc diện cần giấy tờ đó.
Honestly, it would have been clearer if the immigration office had noted that some applicants might not need certain documents. After that, I headed straight to the immigration office and arrived just before noon, right before their lunch break. Even though it was close to the weekend, it wasn’t too crowded.
Thực ra, nếu bên cục nhập cảnh có ghi chú rõ rằng có những trường hợp không cần giấy tờ đó thì sẽ dễ hiểu hơn. Sau đó, tôi đi thẳng đến cục nhập cảnh và đến nơi ngay trước 12 giờ trưa, sát giờ họ nghỉ. Dù là gần cuối tuần nhưng không quá đông người.
After submitting my documents, I went to have an amazing bowl of ramen. It was a chicken-based soup with extra chicken neck meat, and the flavor was unforgettable. It’s not something you can easily find elsewhere. Of course, the price matched the quality—about 2,000 yen, almost double compared to regular bowls.
Sau khi nộp hồ sơ xong, tôi đi ăn một bát mì ramen cực kỳ ngon. Đó là mì nước gà với phần thịt cổ gà, hương vị rất đặc biệt mà tôi khó tìm thấy ở nơi khác. Tất nhiên, giá cũng tương xứng, khoảng 2.000 yên, gần gấp đôi những bát mì thông thường.
Compared to the last time I renewed my visa, when I had to wait nearly three hours, this time felt completely different. I calmly sat down, opened my iPad, and played games while occasionally checking the queue online. Surprisingly, right after the afternoon session started, my number was called.
So với lần gia hạn visa trước, khi tôi phải chờ gần 3 tiếng, lần này hoàn toàn khác. Tôi thong thả ngồi xuống, mở iPad chơi game và thỉnh thoảng kiểm tra số thứ tự online. Thật bất ngờ, ngay đầu giờ chiều đã đến lượt tôi.
I quickly packed up and went back in. They checked everything and said there were no issues. My application was officially accepted. It all felt surprisingly smooth. Maybe this office only receives applications and doesn’t process them directly, which is why it was so fast.
Tôi vội vàng thu dọn đồ và quay lại. Họ kiểm tra và nói không có vấn đề gì, hồ sơ đã được tiếp nhận. Mọi thứ diễn ra suôn sẻ đến mức tôi cũng bất ngờ. Có thể đây chỉ là nơi tiếp nhận hồ sơ chứ không phải nơi xét duyệt nên mới nhanh như vậy.
Either way, having all my documents prepared and accepted gave me a huge sense of relief. After all the running around and stress over the past days, I finally felt like a big weight had been lifted off my shoulders.
Dù thế nào đi nữa, việc chuẩn bị đầy đủ giấy tờ và được tiếp nhận khiến tôi nhẹ cả lòng. Sau những ngày chạy ngược xuôi và lo lắng, cuối cùng tôi cũng cảm thấy như trút bỏ được một gánh nặng lớn.
